A Martial Art is a system of practices and traditions which came into being for the purpose of training for combat. These systems usually have in common the objective of defeating an opponent and that of self-defense from physical threats. The foundation of most of the Asian martial arts likely came to being from travelers, most likely monks, along the silk road from India to China. As such, many of the martial arts have roots in some code or philosophy such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism or Shinto , or Bushido.
