Martha and the Vandellas were an R&B vocal group that was formed in 1957. They are also known as "The Del-Phis", "The Vels" or "Martha Reeves & the Vandellas". The Detroit-based group released a number of hit singles including "Dancing in the Street," "Heat Wave," and "Nowhere to Run", each of which made their way onto soundtracks, radio playlists, and commercials. Their second hit, "Heat Wave," made it in the Hot 100 chart, ranking number 4 and number 1 on the R&B singles charts. It became the group's first million-seller album and earned them a Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.
