Marshalls
- In the 1980s, Marshalls faced new competition from other off-price stores, including TJ Maxx, as well as from the departments stores who offered in-store sales with dramatically reduced prices on name brands. By the late 1980s, the fastest-growing retail market was discount stores who did not have the name brands but offered great bargain prices on their merchandise.
- In 1987, Marshalls decided to upgrade its merchandise and while their prices increased, they featured more recognizable designer names, including Liz Claiborne. Marshalls targeted customers whose taste may have been higher than their budgets. Around the same time, Marshalls starting developing superstores which featured giftwares and home furnishings departments along with apparel.Funding Universe: Marshalls Inc Company History
