Football Tragedy turns to Success
It was a rainy night on November 14, 1970 when the Marshall football team was returning home from a loss to East Carolina. Due to the mist and fog, the plane, just a few hundred yards from the runway, crashed into the hills. With 75 aboard, the university lost their players, coaches, and staff. After the crash, Marshall faced thirteen years of losing until 1984, when they won at East Tennessee State. Since then, Marshall has won over 78 games and has played in five national championships.
