  • Marlon Byrd is an outfielder for the Texas Rangers. After playing college baseball at Georgia Perimeter Junior College and Georgia Tech University, the Philadelphia Phillies selected Byrd in the 10th round of the of the 1999 amateur draft. After a few years in the Phillies minor league farm system, Byrd Made his major league debut on September 8, 2002. In his first full season in the majors (2003), Byrd hit .303 BA for the Phillies, with 7 Home Run, 45 Runs Batted In, and finished 4th in National League Rookie of the Year voting. The Phillies traded Byrd to the Washington Nationals at the start of the 2005 season, in exchange for Endy Chavez. After two seasons with the Nationals, Byrd signed a free agent contract to join the Rangers.

    Defensively, Byrd capable of playing all three outfield positions. Offensively, he hits for power, and runs the bases well when healthy.[1]
