Career
Dietrich started her career with small parts on stage and in German films. Her first lead role came in 1930, with director Josef Von Sternberg. She then went to Hollywood, leaving her family behind, and made a total of six films with Von Sternberg. The German government banned her films in Germany because she had refused an offer from the Nazis to return to Germany and make movies for them. During the fifties, her film career slowed down; she became a recording artist and sang in cabarets all over the world.ClassicMovieFavorites.com: Marlene Dietrich BiographyQuotes
