  • Scuba Adventures runs tours that advertise an opportunity to get "face to face" with sharks. Divers are not caged, and the waters are "chummed" with bloody fish bait to attract sharks. Markus Groh was participating in one of these tours, 50 miles off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale, when he was bitten by a shark. He was evacuated by the Coast Guard, but died of his injuries at a hospital in Miami. Scuba Adventures was asked by Bahamas authorities last year to place divers in protective cages before attracting sharks.
