Marketa Irglova is a singer-songwriter and actress known for her performance and soundtrack contributions in the independent film Once. Marketa has recorded and performed on the solo projects of Glen Hansard, the front man of the Irish band, The Frames. In 2006, they released the album The Swell Season and appeared together in Once the following year. Irglova was awarded, along with Hansard, an Academy Award for the music from the film.

Hansard and Irglova, who co-starred in the film Once together, engaged in a romantic relationship following the film. Media sources reported in late January 2009 that the couple had split. Irglova gave this statement, "It did become a real relationship. I think it was just a very natural part of what we were doing together. We had made the film (Once). We had gone through so much with the Oscar. Of course, we fell into each other's arms. It was a very necessary part of our friendship but I think we both concluded that that wasn't what we really wanted to do. So we're not together now.
