Mark William Prior was born in San Diego, California, on September 7, 1980. He attended the University of San Diego High School. He continued his education at the University of Southern California. On May 22, 2002, Prior made his MLB debut with the Chicago Cubs. In 2003, he had his best season, when he compiled a record of 18 wins and six losses with an earned run average of 2.43.
