Mark Kerr is a professional American Mixed Martial Artist. Kerr started wrestling in high school where he earned Ohio State champion. While attending Syracuse University in 1992, Kerr wrestled and became the Champion of Division One, while Randy Couture came in second for Oklahoma State University. Kerr was also a Division One All American and the USA Senior Freestyle Wrestling Champion in 1994 at 220 lbs. Kerr first became interested in mixed martial arts while training as a wrestler, with his first professional mixed martial arts fight in 1997 at the World Vale Tudo Championship based in Brazil, where he broke his hand, but continued to fight using his ground and pound technique. One opponent actually crawled out of the ring to avoid Kerr's brutal blows. The final match of this championship was a half hour long brawl, broken hand and all where Kerr fought with all his might, punching, kicking, head-butting, and elbowing to claim victory. Kerr won all three fights that night, winning against Paul Varelens, Mestre Hulk, and Fabio Gurgel. Kerr held the victory title for UFC 14 and UFC 15 Heavyweight Tournaments in 1997. Kerr began his fighting career in Japan for PRIDE Fighting Championships in 1998 with his last win for the organization in PRIDE 10 defeating Igor Borisov by submission. 2003 HBO aired a documentary on Kerr's fighting career, addiction to pain killers and the aspects of mixed martial arts. The documentary was titled The Smashing Machine: The Life and Times of Mark Kerr. After some time off from fighting Kerr decided in 2006 to return to mixed martial arts and began fighting in the World Cage Fighting Organization (WCO) in 2007.
