Marjorie Knoller is a former San Francisco lawyer who was tried and convicted of second degree murder in 2002. Two dogs that she was caring for mauled Diane Whipple to death in 2001. Knoller's conviction was reduced to involuntary manslaughter by the presiding judge. However, a California appeals court ruled that the sentence reduction was not within the law, so the case was returned to the lower court. On August 22, 2008, the court ruled that the conviction of second degree murder would be reinstated, and Knoller was jailed awaiting sentencing. On September 22 2008, Knoller was sentenced to 15 years in jail.SF Gate: Judge rips Knoller as she sends her to prison (September 22, 2008)
