Marion Zimmer Bradley was a prolific American science fiction/fantasy author whose works have a strong feminist tone.
Career
Marion Zimmer Bradley's first novel, Falcons of Narabedla, appeared in the May, 1957 issue of Other Worlds. It, and subsequent early works, showed the strong influence of fantasists such as Henry Kuttner and Leigh Brackett. She wrote dozens of books in her Darkover setting, and opened that universe to fan fiction until a legal dispute with a fan forced her to stop. Her re-telling of the Arthurian cycle of legends from a female perspective, The Mists of Avalon became an important work for feminist literature and contributed to the growth of the neo-paganism movement.
