  • Mario Moraes is a young Brazilian race car driver, who started kart racing at age 11 and started had his rookie year in the IndyCar series in 2009.

    On May 24, 2009, he crashed in the first lap of the Indianapolis 500, making contact with Marco Andretti; although neither man was injured, the crash ended both men's races for the day.     Mario Moraes began kart racing at age 11 in his native Brazil. He began racing in Formula TR 1600 in the United States in 2006. He raced in the South American Formula 3 Championship, finishing second in 2006; and then the British Formula 3 Championship where he finished 14th in 2007 moving to the Indy Car Series in 2008.Honda IndyCar: Mario Moraes

    In the first lap of the 2009 Indianapolis 500, Moraes drifted out and made contact with Marco Andretti. Both cars crashed. Neither man was injured.
