Mario Kart Wii

Mario Kart Wii is a kart racing video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii that was first announced at E3 2007. Each copy of the game is packaged with a Wii Wheel, designed to house the Wii Remote in a way that allows more intuitive and conventional steering.

Control

Compatible with four different control schemes for customization of play:

  1. Nunchuk Controller: Steer with the Control Stick on the Nunchuk. Use the Wii Remote to accelerate, drift, and perform aerial tricks
  2. Classic Controller: Steer with the left Control Stick. Use the D-pad to perform aerial tricks.
  3. GameCube: Steer with the control stick. Use the D-pad to perform aerial tricks.
  4. Wii Remote Controller (with or without Wii Wheel)
    1. Steer by tilting the Wii Remote left or right
    2. Snap the Wii Remote into the Wii Wheel for use as a steering wheel

Gameplay:

Mario Kart Wii has several modes for one player and multiple players.

  • Grand Prix: For 1-player mode. Players can choose one of eight different championship cups and race on four different courses. Initially, only four championship cups are available for every CC, but more are unlocked as the courses are passed. When all of the championship cups are passed in 50cc, 100cc and 150cc, Mirror Mode is unlocked.
  • Battle Mode: Players are put on teams and put in an arena playing in one of two matches, a coin battle or a balloon contest. In the coin battle, the team with the most coins at the end is the winner. In a balloon contest, the winning team is the one that pops the most balloons, which is only done by attacking the opposing team with weapons.
  • Time Trial: Players race the courses without any physical opposition (ghost times can be put on the track as an opposition). Players are given three mushrooms, which can be used at anytime during the race. If the player hits a hazard or falls off the track, the player loses the mushrooms.
  • Online Mode: Players can log on to Nintendo's wi-fi connection and play against as many as 11 other competitors. Each race is selected randomly. After a race, players earn or lose ranking points depending on the finish.
