Singer, songwriter and actor Mario Dewar Barrett (also known as Mario) sang the popular rhythm and blues singles "Just a Friend" and "Let Me Love You". His most notable film roles were in Step Up and Freedom Writers. He credits Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Boyz II Men and Brian McKnight as being influential to his music.
An MTV documentary entitled I Won't Love You to Death: The Story of Mario and His Mom shows the struggles of Mario and his mother due to her addiction to heroin.
It was announced on February 18, 2008 that Mario would be appearing on the sixth season of Dancing with the Stars with partner Karina Smirnoff.
