Fencing champion Mariel Zagunis won Olympic gold medals in the individual saber events in 2004 and 2008. She was the first American to win a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics. Her team won the gold, silver (Sada Jacobson) and bronze (Becca Ward) medals in the event. Zagunis also helped the U.S. Olympic fencing team win a bronze medal in the women's team sabre event.
