A group of Italian archaeologists discovered the tomb of Marcus Nonius Macrinus north of Rome, near the Tiber River. Senior archaeologist Daniela Rossi described the marble mausoleum as an "exceptional find."Discovery: Original 'Gladiator's' Tomb Unearthed in Rome (October 15, 2008)
The monument was accidentally unveiled during construction work in the area. Although the tomb itself collapsed into the ground, the beams, columns, friezes, roof and some decorations remained intact.
