Marat Safin

Marat Safin is a professional tennis player from Russia. As of 2008, Safin's current singles ranking is seventy-seven.

Coming from a family of tennis players, Marat Safin began training at a young age and by fourteen took advanced training in Spain. By the age of 17, Safin began his professional career, and defeated Andre Agassi and Gustavo Kuerten at the French Open the following year. Safin won his first Grand Slam tournament in 2000 by defeating Pete Sampras, and reached the final rounds of the Australian Open in 2002, 2004, and 2005.Sports Illustrated: Mighty Marat
