Manuel Marulanda is the nom de guerre of Pedro Antonio Marin who was the main leader of the Colombian rebel group Farc. Marulanda, along with Jacobo Arenas, founded the group in 1966.
In 2006, the United States Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales, issued a $5 million dollar reward to Marulanda's death, capture, or any information leading to those ends.
On May 24, 2008, the Colombian army announced that Marulanda, then 80 years old, had died of a heart attack on March 26, 2008.
The last time Marulanda had been seen in public was in 1982.
It is expected that Alfonso Cano will take his place as leader of Farc
