Manuel Benitez, also known as Mark Everett, is a former child actor who was wanted by federal authorities in connection with the 2004 beating death of his girlfriend Stephanie Spears. On December 23, 2008, the 38-year-old Benitez was shot to death following a hostage standoff with police in El Monte, California. Authorities say on December 23, 2008, Manuel Benitez grabbed a child thought to be his son and held the boy at gunpoint in a back room of an El Monte, California, restaurant. According to reports, the hostage standoff ended in an exchange of gunfire between Benitez and police. Benitez was killed.
