Manic Street Preachers (often referred to simply as “The Manics”) are a Welsh rock band. In a recording career that now spans a full twenty years, they have released nine studio albums, amassed over 30 UK top 30 singles, and also (thanks to politically-charged lyrics and an appetite for controversy early in their career) ruffled their fair share of feathers. Their debut album Generation Terrorists (1992) introduced fans to their punk-rock influences, and androgynous, glam-rock-esque imagery. Having later adopted a more mainsteam sound and image, they are now recognised as one of the UK's foremost rock acts. Noted for being the only western rock band to have played a concert in Cuba during recent years, they survived the disappearance (and presumed death) of lyricist Richey Edwards in 1995. Their most recent album, "Journal For Plague Lovers", features lyrics left behind by Edwards prior to his disappearance. The band toured the US and Canada for the first time in ten years during the latter part of 2009.
