Manhattan College is a private Roman Catholic liberal arts college that grants undergraduate and graduate degrees.
History
In 1853, the college was founded by five French monks in a small building on Canal street who named it the Academy of Holy Infancy. The school grew quickly and added college-level courses and changed its name to Manhattan College in 1859.Manhattan College: History
The Campus
Originally located in lower Manhattan, the college would move two more times as it outgrew its facilities. For a time it was located in Harlem, but it would move to its current location in the Bronx in 1922. It is a compact campus located next to Gaelic Park and near two major New York roads: the Henry Hudson Parkway and the Major Deegan Expressway.
