Malt-O-Meal Recall

  • On April 5, 2008, Malt-O-Meal recalled their Unsweetened Puffed Rice cereal after detecting salmonella in the product. The boxes of cereal that are affected have "Best If Used By" codes between April 8, 2008 (coded as "APR0808") and March 18, 2009 (coded as "MAR1809"). The affected cereals are also sold under private labels. Customers who have the affected products should return the cereal and get a full refund.

    Private labels include Acme, America's Choice, Food Club, Giant, Hannaford, Jewel, Laura Lynn, Pathmark, Shaw's, ShopRite, Tops, and Weis Quality.

    A person infected with salmonella poisoning will experience severe and/or bloody diarrhea, stomach cramps, fever, and vomiting. In some cases, salmonella poisoning can be severe and life threatening. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek medical care.
