Makeup

The word "makeup" means to pretend and, in using cosmetics to hide pores, smooth complexions and attempt to change the color of our eyes, we a pretending to be something we are not, we are "making it up".

Having said this, makeup has been an integral part of the human race for thousands of years. http://www.webmd.com/skin-beauty/guide/history-makeup

Makeup has a fascinating history, many ancient beauty enhancement substances were pure poison. Face skin whiteners, for example, have included mercury, lead, arsenic and nitric acid as part of their ingredients. Mercury and lead were responsible for ruined skin, hair loss, stomach problems, the shakes, and even death.

Today's makeup must meet strict government guidlines to ensure the safe use of cosmetics we buy for everyday use. The worst you might suffer from your makeup is stabbing yourself in the eye when trying to apply mascara, or a slight skin irritation from a product you have a particular sensitivity to.

All said about how makeup can enhance beauty, the most important thing of all is to reflect on our inner beauty, this is our "true" beauty. Superficial beauty will pass, no matter what drastic measures we take. The saying "The eyes are the windows to the soul" is well quoted. So,look into your own eyes, take stock of the person inside and be happy with whom you are. This will send a message to others and reflect how you feel about life and will be returned to you through their reactions to the beautiful you.

History of Makeup

Makeup has been recorded from as early as the 1st Dynasty of Egypt (c.3100-2907 BC). Unguent, an ancient moisturising substance, was kept in jars which have been unearthed from tombs from this era.

Egyptian women also decorated their eyes by applying a dark green color to the lower lids and applying kohl to the upper lid and lashes. Kohl was made from antimony (a metallic element) or soot.

The New Testament refers to the painting of faces which leads us to believe that the Jews adopted the use of makeup from the Egyptians.
