The word "makeup" means to pretend and, in using cosmetics to hide pores, smooth complexions and attempt to change the color of our eyes, we a pretending to be something we are not, we are "making it up".

Todays makeup must meet strict government guidlines to ensure the safe use of cosmetics we buy for everyday use. The worst you might suffer from your makeup is stabbing yourself in the eye when trying to apply mascara, or a slight skin irritation from a product you have a particular sensitivity to.
