Each Major League Baseball (MLB) team plays a six month, 162-game regular season within two leagues, each of which have three geographical divisions. The MLB All-Star Game is held each July. Following the regular season, eight teams qualify for the MLB Playoffs. After two rounds are played to determine each league champion, the two remaining teams participate in the World Series.
The 2009 Major League Baseball season began on April 5, 2009, in a game between the 2008 World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies and their division rival Atlanta Braves. On January 1, 2009, Major League Baseball launched the MLB Network. A cable and satellite channel dedicated exclusively to Major League Baseball. The network launched at 7pm Eastern Standard Time. The first program is a re-broadcast of a Classic baseball game featuring the "perfect game" pitched by Don Larsen in the 1956 World Series.Official Site: MLB Network
