Dr. Josyann Abisaab

Josyann Abisaab is an emergency room doctor who has been suspended for failing to immediately report Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress's accidential self-inflicted gunshot wound. Burress was admitted to New York-Cornell Hospital after a gun in his possession went off in his pocket on the evening of November 28, 2008.

Fast Facts

  2. Worked at New York-Cornell Hospital
  3. Allegedly called and summoned to meet Burress at hospital

  5. Burress has also been suspended for the rest of the season
  6. Burress checked into hospital under fake name

After treating Burress, Abisaab did not call the police as was required. Authorities are also investigating whether any other individuals conspired to keep Burress's gunshot injury from the police.

Panel says bio-attack likely by 2013

Posted By: 20081203093100

Germ Warfare Attack

A blue-ribbon Congressional panel led by former Florida Senator Bob Graham determined that the United States is likely to suffer an attack by weapons of mass destruction before 2013, and that the attack is more likely to be a biological attack than a nuclear one. The panel cited the accessibility and poor security exercised over the storage of biological pathogens as factors in their risk determination.

Fast Facts

  1. Congressional panel said bioweapons attack likely by 2013
  2. Biological weapons attack also known as germ warfare
  3. United States and Great Britain began active bioweapons programs during World War Two
  4. Japanese conducted biological attacks on villages in China during World War Two
  5. Fort Detrick was headquarters of U.S. bioweapons program

Previous Bioweapon Attacks

During the Second World War, the Japanese government maintained a bioweapons program in Manchuria that produced bacteriological bombs containing plague and anthrax. The Japanese dropped these bombs on Chinese villages during the Second World War. To test the biological agents, the Japanese forced Chinese prisoners to eat and inhale the pathogens; in some cases, the Japanese would kill the subjects before they had died in order to perform autopsies.

Quotes

"The consequences of a biological attack are almost beyond comprehension. It would be 9/11 times 10 or a hundred in terms of the number of people who would be killed... Today [the 1918 flu virus] is still in the laboratory, but if it should get out and into the hands of scientists who knew how to use it for a violent purpose, we could have multiple times the 40 million people who were killed 100 years ago."—Former Senator Bob Graham

More bombs defused in Mumbai

Posted By: 20081203081200

Mumbai blasts

Multiple sites in the Indian city of Mumbai were attacked with bombs and gunfire in a coordinated terror attack beginning on November 26, 2008. The attacks killed 179 people, including at least 22 foreigners. Over 300 injuries were reported. The last gunmen were cleared out of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel on Saturday morning, November 29, as firefighters continued work putting out blazes on the first few stories. A previously-unknown group called the Deccan Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attack via email

On December 3, 2008, Indian authorities found and defused several "leftover" bombs at Mumbai's main train station. The station was one of the sites targeted by militants on the first day of the terrorist attacks.

Fast Facts

  1. Attacks began on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 and ended Saturday, November 29, 2008
  2. Mumbai formerly known as Bombay
  3. 179 killed, over 300 injuries reported
  4. Gunmen hijacked cars and police vehicles
  5. Jewish families were held hostage at Nariman House, the center for Mumbai's Orthodox Jewish community.
  6. BP Petrol pump blown up in Colaba
  7. Nine gunman killed in shootouts with police

The Attacks

Indian authorities believe that the attackers entered Mumbai via the waterfront near the two hotels. A fishing trawler is being held for investigation.

The first attack occurred about 9:30 pm at the Cafe Leopold on November 26, 2008. A man was seen firing an AK-47 in the Taj Mahal Palace hotel lobby before fleeing into the kitchen. Another series of injuries was reported when a gunman opened fire at a central train station.

As the rampage progressed, gunmen opened fire at several locations throughout the city, including a crowded train station, a popular restaurant and several luxury hotels. The terrorists apparently sought victims with British or American passports.

  • Among the locations attacked were:
    1. Taj Mahal Palace and Tower
    2. Hotel Oberoi
    3. Cama Hospital
    4. Cafe Leopold
    5. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
    6. Nariman House

Suspects

A formerly unknown group that calls itself the Deccan Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attacks. However, some authorities believe that it is a front group for another organization. The Indian government believes that a terrorist group from Pakistan, possibly affiliated with Pakistani militant groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, both of which have ties to Al Qaeda, may be responsible

India and the United States have both pressured the government of Pakistan to cooperate with a thorough investigation into the matter. Pakistan has responded that it will look into the role of "nonstable actors" in plotting the attacks.

A man named Ajmal Amir Kamal, from the Faridkot district of Pakistan's Punjab province, was arrested at the Taj Hotel, and has admitted to being part of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. That group has denied involvement.

Another possibility is that former crime boss Dawood Ibrahim, the man thought to have been responsible for the 1993 serial bombings in Mumbai, carried out in retaliation for the demolition of the Babri mosque.

found on the terrorists have included two British identifications and a Mauritius identity card.

Deaths

At least 172 people have died in the attacks, including 22 foreigners and six Americans.

Encounter specialist cop Vijay Salaskar and Additional Commissioner of Police Ashok Kamte were killed during the siege. Hemant Karkare, head of the Indian anti-terrorist squad, also died.

A Virginia man, Alan Scherr, and his 13-year-old daughter naomi died at the Hotel Oberoi the attack while attending a conference with fellow members of the Synchronicity Foundation. New York Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivka Holtzberg were killed in the Nariman House attack after their two-year-old son had escaped with their Indian nanny.

Warned in Advance

Sources have confirmed to both Fox News and CNN that India was warned by U.S. officials of a potential maritime attack on Mumbai. Security forces in India confirmed that the U.S warned them of a possible water-borne attack on two occasions. The area of Mumbai went into a state of alert for a week and tightened security measures. The tightened security eventually relaxed according to officials in India.
