Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was the founder of the technique of Transcendental Meditation. His teachings became popular in the West after The Beatles visited him in India in 1968. In January of 2008, he announced that he was retiring from his work. He passed away one month later.

Transcendental Meditation
Transcendental Meditation is a technique practiced daily for twenty minutes, while sitting with one's eyes closed. During the meditation, the practitioner attempts to enter transcendental consciousness in order to experience a state of "restful alertness" beyond thoughts. Yogi believed Transcendental consciousness to be the home of one's creativity and intelligence. -
