"Don't be afraid to jump in. I did and I've never regretted it.
Read How Mahalo Works and go through a lot of the pages that are linked from there. Watch the Mahalo Tutorials and be at the ones you can live on Wednesdays.
Most of all... don't get overwhelmed by all Mahalo has to offer. Take your time, get your feet wet and get to know the community. Ask questions. We don't bite. =D"

"Try everything! Mahalo has lots of different areas, and new activities are added regularly. Most people start off with Mahalo Answers, but don’t stay there. Try out doing some tasks (one of the highest earning activities on Mahalo), manage some pages, try Q&A at conundrum, take part in Mahalo competitions… But most of all, have fun. If you spend time on Mahalo just for the money, you will probably fail or get bored. If you enjoy yourself, you’re likely to stay, and earn even more."

"Stick with it, don't get discouraged, and ask questions when you get stuck! Mahalo is complicated, sure, but it SEEMS a lot more complicated than it really is at first. Give it a few days, do a few tasks or pages, and you'll almost assuredly get the hang of it. And then it starts to get much more fun."

"Take your time in writing your answers. So many new users come from other sites where a lot of one-liners are tossed around. But around here it really pays off to slow down and make your answers thoughtful, clever, and thorough. Don't be afraid to add more details, more images, more anything to your answer. Let your wisdom and experience shine here."

"The most important item of advice would be to read the answers of and listen to the veteran users here on Mahalo when they offer constructive criticism, everyone is here to help and has been happy to do so with me and others I have seen struggle. Never give up there is always someone willing to help."

"Don't focus solely on revenue. My experience with page management is that it won't provide immediate revenue, but over-time it'll earn you Mahalo Dollars. That's why I claim some pages just for the enjoyment, and some just based on projected-revenue - so I won't just give up on the projected-revenue pages when they aren't performing well."

"I'd have to say just generally be careful how you ask and answer your questions. Ask providing lots of detail to take out the guesswork of what you mean. Answer assuming nothing other than the information provided. Don't judge people on their questions, and site your facts with sources. I'd also have to mention to utilize the power of the community. There are so many great people here that will always be some willing to help you with your problems, answer your questions, provide advice, or simply teach you something new - these people are here because they enjoy what they're doing, so take advantage of it!"

"Definitely give it a try. You may want to start out with pages that have already been built, then just go in and make edits and move things around. And then when your comfortable with all the features available on a page, try building your own from scratch. Also, move your content around so that your ads are closer to the top of the page so they're more likely to be clicked on. And try adding more text fields so that you can increase the number of keywords on your page."

"If a page truly isn't performing, I'll sometimes let it go. However, you can usually get some traffic to it by using Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit and Del.icio.us. There are always great people in the Mahalo Chat Room who are willing to help too. If I really think a page has untapped potential, I may write about it on my blog, but I haven't yet got to that point. If it really isn't something the general public is interested in and searching for though, focusing your efforts on pages people want to see might be the better play."

"Read several answers, especially those by leading Mahaloians, before you jump in with your own answers. There is a special spirit here, and after you've read a few answers, you'll start to see it and see what kinds of things are well-recieved (and likely to get Best Answer) and which aren't."

"If you want to be successful on Mahalo Answers, keep your focus on being helpful and kind to others. For example, read questions from the perspective of the asker, and try to get a feel of what they’re looking for. Give well-sourced answers along with personal experiences as often as possible. Don’t give smart-alecky responses or try to be humorous on questions where it is neither necessary nor appropriate. And please don’t plagiarize. It’s not helpful to anyone if you copy/paste your info from somewhere else. Give people a better answer than they could find in a Google search of their own."

"I have found that voting here on Mahalo is a good way to get to know people, and just reading questions without necessarily giving an answer. You can’t get to know everyone all at once. It takes time, like peeling an onion. Some answers you read will give a tiny snippet or snapshot about a person. Patience is the key here."

"Question the info you find on the internet. Just because you found a source that says X, ask yourself if it makes sense and is really plausible. Go look to see if there are other good sources that say something different. Remember a lot of things on the net are cobbled together in a hurry by people who may not even care if what they're saying is right so long as it pulls in traffic."

"My advice would be to dip your toe in first and then go for it and have fun. Read the questions and responses of the many members here at MA to get the idea of what the community is all about. You'll find that this is a place where a little more time and effort put into your answer goes a long way towards the Mahalo spirit."
