Mahalo is a human-powered search engine dedicated to help people easily find information and resources they can trust. Mahalo launched in public alpha in May of 2007, added the freelance-fueled Mahalo Greenhouse in June and graduated to public beta in October of that year. -

How Mahalo Works
Mahalo employs guides that curate search results and manage remote Greenhouse workers from its offices in Santa Monica, California. The public actively participates in building content by suggesting links, creating user-generated "stubs" (short search results pages), and building pages for pay in the Mahalo Greenhouse. -
User Participation
Mahalo encourages user participation through its Firefox add-on Mahalo Share, which facilitates link suggestion, auto-creation of user-generated stubs, and posts to a number of social bookmarking networks. Mahalo Social encourages users to post their links and find other members with similar interests, and every search results page includes a user discussion board. Mahalo also directly engages the public through dedicated Twitter, UStream and YouTube channels. -
