  • X-Men Origins: Magneto is a 2009 prequel to the X-Men series of films. Magneto is directed by David S. Goyer, and tells the story of Magneto's early days, when he was imprisoned in the infamous Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz during the Holocaust. In the film, he meets Professor Xavier (who is a soldier for the Allies forces) during the liberation of the camp, and the two become friends. After the war, their relationship sours, when Magneto is unable to control his hunger for vengeance and begins hunting down Nazi war criminals in Europe and Argentina.

    Magneto was written by Sheldon Turner and David S. Goyer, and is produced by Avi Arad, Kevin Halloran, Stan Lee, Hutch Parker, Lauren Shuler Donner and Alex Young. It will be distributed by 20th Century Fox.

    The part of Magneto has yet to be cast, and Ian McKellen (who played the character in the first three films) has confirmed that he will not appear in X-Men Origins: Magneto.
