Magic 8 Ball History
The Magic 8 Ball was first developed in 1946 by Abe Bookman, working for Alabe Crafts. The original model was three and a half inches in diameter, made from hard plastic and featured 16 different answer options. The toy has evolved in the years since, adding four more answers and several themed models as well as changing the design slightly to reduce the weight. The Magic 8 Ball rights were sold to Tyco in the 1970s, who produced the toy until 1997 when Tyco was acquired by Mattel.
