This page contains a full text and video walkthrough of the action video game Mafia II. Developed and published by 2K Games, Mafia II was released on August 24, 2010, for play on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, as well as the PC.
Set amidst the new opportunities and changing expectations of post-World War II America, Mafia II follows the increasingly dangerous adventures of a young Italian-American named Vito. After serving with distinction in the war, Vito returns home to the crushing realities of his poor, crime-ridden neighborhood. His no-good father has recently died, leaving the family deep in debt to all the wrong people. With a mandate to make some fast money at any cost, Vito consults his friend Joe, who's infamous in the neighborhood for his connections in organized crime. Vito's no Michael Corleone, with a father's fortune and influence to slowly draw him into the underworld. If he wants to get by in the literally cutthroat world of the Mafia, he'll have to make a name for himself, and defend his interests with all the smarts and violence he can muster.
Carving out a niche for himself in the fractious and deadly world of organized crime will take more than ruthless aggression and a borderline sociopathic mindset. Vito will have to shoot down countless enemies, be they rival gang members or corrupt cops. He'll also have to put some serious miles under his wheels, driving all over the fictional city of Empire Bay on his errands of theft, extortion, or outright murder. Rising through the ranks of the Mafia is no picnic, and Vito's hands will be dirtier than he ever imagined possible before he makes enough money to save his family. He'll also learn the true meaning of Mafia friendship and loyalty, as his closest allies turn out to be his bitterest enemies, approaching him with smiles while they clutch knives behind their backs. Fast money, hot cars, and loose women are his for the taking, but Vito will learn that's there's always a price for the good things in life, and that the more powerful you become, the more enemies you make.
Story
Returning from World War II to find his family in desperate financial need, Vito sets out to earn the necessary money the only way he can: by joining up with the local chapter of the Cosa Nostra. Luckily for Vito, and unluckily for anyone who gets in his way, the Mafia turns out not to be a myth after all. It's very real, and very dangerous. Starting out in the proverbial mail room--stealing cars, roughing up merchants for protection money--Vito's sharply honed combat skills and ruthless determination soon catch the eyes of some ambitious capos, who move him up the ladder to arson, extortion and murder for higher. As he earns money and respect, Vito also makes his share of enemies, Mafiosi who are jealous of his rapid rise. Inevitably, he comes to the attention of the law as well, and his quest to save his family from the very heartaches he willingly inflicts on strangers becomes more complicated, and more deadly, as it progresses.
Gameplay
Mafia II is a fast-paced mix of shooting, driving, stealth, and problem solving. Most missions will entail some combination of these elements, as a car chase ends in a brutal shootout, or a sneaky attempt at gathering information goes sour, forcing you to flee the scene amidst a hail of bullets. Though its basic setup is similar to other driving/crime games--notably the Grand Theft Auto series--Mafia II delivers its own unique flavor, both in tone and actual gameplay.
Series
The popular PC game Mafia, released in 2002 and ported to the Xbox and PlayStation 2 in 2004, was known for fast-paced action, a strong story and a cinematic presentation. The sequel, Mafia II, aims to deliver the same elements, with an all new setting, storyline, and cast of characters. Fans of the first game will recognize the feel and basic controls of the sequel, while newcomers to the franchise won't have to contend with missing information due to not having played the original.

Opening Sequence
Chapter 1: The Old Country
In this introductory mission, set during Vito's service in World War II, you'll be taught the basic controls and mechanics of the game. Follow the prompts on the screen as they appear. Take aim at the enemy officer on the balcony across the courtyard, and take him out. Then deal with the few remaining members of the enemy squad, with the help of the Italian resistance. Then leave cover, and approach the front of the building. When the machine gun opens up inside, denying entrance through the front door, try to get onto the left side of the building. You need to climb in through the window there, and flank the machine gun position. Once inside, move into the next room, and take cover by the window. Switch to your grenade, and lob it into the room with the machine gun. You don't need to be especially accurate here, as simply throwing the grenade into the room will trigger a cutscene. When it's over, switch back to your rifle, and follow your squad forward. Take cover by the wall to begin storming the rest of the building.
Make your way through the building, battling enemies as you go. Get used to the shooting mechanics of the game, as you'll be doing a lot of it in the future. It helps to aim as much as possible before pressing Left Trigger, since movement is slower while actually in aiming mode. When you come to the closed door, kick it in, and try to shoot the enemy who's holding the hostage in the next room. Then keep moving. Just ahead, go out onto the balcony and pick off some more enemies. When it gets too hot, go back inside, then out onto the balcony along the other wall. Use the machine gun to take out the enemies in the courtyard below, and destroy the trucks as well. When the tank shows up, don't worry; just hang out and wait for the cutscene that ends this first, short chapter.
Chapter 2: Home Sweet Home
Take a ride with your old pal Joe, and get an eye-full of your home, Empire Bay. Vito is home from the war, but only temporarily--or so he thinks. His experiences with the Italian don in Sicily, and the strings Joe is able to effortlessly pull on his behalf, are making a big impression on Vito. Maybe connections with the right people are what life in Empire Bay is all about.
After hanging out with Joe for a while, then taking a cab to your old neighborhood, follow the radar toward your house. Take your time if you want, and soak in the atmosphere--both quaint and strained--of the wintry tenement streets. When you find your building, go inside, and head upstairs to find your mama. After dinner, go to your old bedroom--just like you left it--and go to sleep.
When you get up the next morning, get dressed, then head out and talk to Mama. Leave the apartment, and find your sister in trouble. Here's where you'll learn the basics of hand-to-hand combat. Fight the big ape in the alley; beat him down until he runs away. Watch out; he can use all the same moves as you, including dodging. A few quick light-hit combos, followed by brutal moves performed while he's stunned, will send him on his way.
After the fight, go in search of Joe, the only person you know who might be able to find $2,000 in a hurry. Find Joe in his apartment above the trattoria a few blocks away. He's on the third floor, at the end of the hallway to the right of the stairs.
After the cutscene, follow Joe out the backdoor and over to the garage where his car is parked. Get in the driver's seat, and learn the basic driving controls. Get used to them, since you'll be doing a lot of driving in the coming chapters. Drive to Giuseppe's place, so that Joe can introduce you, and you can start earning some dough.
When you arrive at Giuseppe's building, go inside, then head upstairs, to the second floor. After the short cutscene, take your forged discharge papers, then buy some lock picks. Practice picking locks at the dummy doorknob in the vise. When you've got the hang of it, go back downstairs and outside. Steal the Jefferson sedan. You have the option to either smash the window or use your lock pick. It's up to you. When you're spotted by the cop, lose your wanted level by driving as fast as you can away from the area. When it's clear, find the nearest body shop, and take the car in for some much-needed alterations. Get the plates changed, thus frustrating the cops' attempts to track you down. You can customize your plates if you want. When you're good to go, drive across town to meet with Mike Brusci.
After meeting with the mechanic, brush up on your shooting skills with the wrecked car. Then get in your own ride, and head out in search of the car Mike wants. When you get there, hop the fence and approach the car. Smashing the window is the best way to go here, since you'll be spotted before you get near the car. You can stay and fight the Bombers who try to stop you, or just get in the car and go. Either way, you'll have to evade their pursuit on your way back to Mike's junkyard. This car doesn't handle nearly as smoothly as the Jefferson, so use a light touch on the handbrake, or you'll skid out. Lose the pursuit, then get the car back to Mike's. It doesn't have to be in pristine shape, just drivable.
After delivering the car, drive back to Joe's place. Park your car in the garage there, then go upstairs with Joe. Grab some food and/or drink out of the fridge, then lay down on the couch in the kitchen--classy--to end the chapter.
Chapter 3: Enemy of the State
When you wake up in the morning, go into the front hall and answer the phone. Get dressed at the wardrobe directly across from the phone, then hit the streets. Grab your car from the garage around back, then head south. Since you promised Mama, it's time to meet Mr. Popolardo down at the docks. His office is at the top of a set of stairs. After introducing yourself, follow his lackey, Steve, downstairs; there's a collectible poster on the landing outside the door. Load a crate onto the truck. When the door opens, give up and walk out. There're lots of fun things to do in Empire Bay, and none of them are loading crates.
It soon becomes clear that Mr. Popolardo isn't the upstanding union man Mama believes him to be. Follow Steve back to his office, and have a more candid conversation with him. Then head downstairs and speak to the workers about the barber's fee. They're working over on the left side of the room. The first three will pony up without much fuss--give them a shove if they seem reluctant--but the fourth one would rather fight. He's a bit of a better brawler than the last goon you fought, but he's still not much when it comes down to it. Knock him out, then bring the money back up to the office. When you're done there, head to Freddy's Bar in Little Italy to meet with Joe about a new job.
Drive to the apartment of a woman named Maria, your contact for the stamp heist. Go around to the back door. Zoom in on the nameplates outside the doors to find Maria's, or just go to the only one on the left. Knock on her door. Drive Maria over to the hospital, and get the details on the job. This is a good time to use the Speed Limiter (A), since Maria will get upset if she thinks you're driving too fast. When you've dropped her off, head over to the office you need to break into.
Leave the car, and go down the alley on foot. Hop the fence on the left, then move forward. Crouch to move stealthily. Sneak in through the bathroom window, and move deeper into the building. It's swarming with guards, so you'll have to be sneaky. You can take them out silently, but make sure no one sees you, or they'll sound the alarm. You can drag their unconscious bodies into out-of-the-way locations, to hide your presence. The office with the keys in it is upstairs. Once you have the keys, find the room with the safe in it--it's down the hall to the left, behind a glowing door. You'll need to pick the lock on the inner door to get to the safe. Once there, open the safe to get what you came for. The alarm will sound as soon as you have the stamps, and the cops will show up. Now you'll need to get the hell out of there. You can try to fight, but there are a ton of cops, and itonly takes a few shots to kill you. Just running is a better idea. There's a set of stairs just outside the room with the safe, but don't go straight down. Try to draw the cops upstairs, and go down when the ground level is clear. Run outside, and continue to elude the cops. As soon as you've got some distance between you and your pursuers, steal a car. Your wanted level will drop as soon as you have a ride. Then head back to Freddy's Bar.
In order to unload the stamps, you need to sell them to as many gas station attendants as you can before midnight. The stations are marked on your map, and on your radar. There are a bunch of them, and keeping track of which one you're heading toward can be tough, so use waypoints if you want. You don't have to get to all the gas stations--you only have six sheets of stamps, so you can pick and choose which stations you want to hit. Obviously, you want to use the closest ones first, before moving on to the outliers. You don't even have to unload all six sheets in order to complete the mission, but you get money for each one you hit, so it's worth doing as many as you can. Get a good fast car, and do as much business as you possible. Pull into the stations, and press X to sell the stamps. Then return to Joe's place and go to sleep to finish the chapter.
Chapter 4: Murphy's Law
When you get up, head over to Freddy's Bar to find out about your next job. When it's time to go, drive Joe down to the mall, and break into the jewelry store. Getting in is just a matter of picking the lock, but things soon get complicated. After the cutscene, run with Joe through the mall, avoiding both the Irish mob and the cops. You've suddenly lost the ability to open doors, so you'll have to wait for Joe to do it when you come to one that's closed. Cover him as he picks the locks. You don't need to kill everyone around while he's doing it; just keep them busy long enough for him to open the door, then keep following him. At the top of the long flight of stairs, take cover in the alcove on the left, and fire on the cops coming up the stairs behind you. Then head out onto the roof. There are more cops ahead; take them out, then keep moving. After the short cutscene, battle more cops, then continue on.
After splitting up with Joe, you'll need to meet up with him again at his apartment. Since the description the police have of the robbery suspect includes your workman's uniform, you'll have to change your clothes in order to lose your wanted level. This is optional; you can make it back to Joe's as a wanted man, but you'll have to be extra careful. You might as well spend some of your hard earned dough on some fancy duds, though. If you'd rather change, find a men's store on the map, and head toward it. There are several off to the east a few blocks, and one to the north. However you're attired, make it back to Joe's place and hit the sack to finish this relatively short chapter.
Chapter 5: The Buzzsaw
After the provocative opening cutscene, get dressed, and head out to the garage. After Joe's girl has her accident, take a minute to help her out, Mafia style. This guy's not much better at fighting than he is at driving. After dealing with him, talk to the girl, then head over to Freddy's Bar to take the next step in your career. The guy's car is pretty good, and he won't be needing it for a while. You might as well take it. Make sure to park it in the garage to save it in your inventory, as you'll be switching vehicles soon.
After meeting up with the boys, head over to the army-navy store in Kingston to pick up a new piece of hardware. It's around the back of the block. Ring the bell, then go inside and talk to the store's owner. Then use the crate-hauling skills you learned earlier to load up the van in front of the store, and drive it to the meeting place. Keep your speed down; you need to get the van safely to the rendezvous, and a high-speed chase won't help.
When the time comes, open up with the machine gun on the thugs in the street below. After putting the machine gun down, look for a good pistol on the table. Then follow the others downstairs. Clean out the last of the goons on the street, then go across to the building, and go inside. Shoot it out with the enemies inside, and move toward the back of the room. Don't worry when the still explodes; there's nothing you can do about it. Watch out for the shotgun-toting guy on the stairs. Take his gun, though you may not want to use it immediately, since it's only useful at short range, and you have some more firing from cover to do. Eliminate the thugs upstairs, including the two who arrive on the elevator. Then get in the elevator and press the button to ride it up to the next level.
There are a bunch of guys in the room behind the sliding garage door. Go through the smaller door on the left, and move along the piles of boxes there, to flank them. Make sure to grab their Tommy guns. Then follow your buddies up another set of stairs. Take down the last couple of guards between you and your target, then finish the job.
After things go bad, get out of the distillery with your friends. The elevator's out of order, so you'll have to take the stairs. There are more enemies in your way; they'll start appearing after the explosion on the staircase. Mow them down, and keep moving until you're out of the building. Once outside, get in the car and go. You're on the clock now--you need to get Henry to EL Greco before he bleeds out. The car you've got isn't the best. Give it all the speed you can. You're automatically wanted now, too, so avoid the cops as best you can. Get to El Greco's before time runs out.
After dropping Henry off, take the money back to your sister so she can pay off your father's debts. Then head for Joe's apartment for some much-needed rest.
Chapter 6: Time Well Spent
This chapter is largely made up of cutscenes, with some actual gameplay interspersed throughout. When you get control in prison, walk with the guards down the halls and up the stairs to your cell. Later, ask around in the prison yard to find your contact. When you run into your old pal O'Neill, duke it out with him until the fight is stopped. After serving your time in the hole, learn and practice some of the finer points of hand-to-hand fighting.
Immediately after dodging an opponent;s punch, you can throw a quick counter-punch by pressing B. Try it out on Pepe. After the sparring session, get to know some of the boys in the gym. When you're ready to leave, you'll run afoul of the Chinese. Fight their best fighter. He's quick, so don't throw heavy punches, at least not to begin with. Keep your guard up, and throw some counter-punches when you have the chance. Mix it up with some light combos until you have the opportunity to deliver the knockout blow. Pretty soon you'll have the chance to fight again. This time, learn to grab your opponent, and finish him off. Press Y to grab, and then B, three times, to finish him off. The three Bs have to come in a regular rhythm, or the move won't work.
Later, after a visit from your sister, follow the guard again. Clean the filthy, filthy urinals--yes, you have to--then take a shower. Here you'll have to fight again, against two opponents, and the stakes have never been higher--use your imagination. Knock out the big guy, then his pal, to escape a fate worse than 10 years imprisonment.
Finally, you'll get the chance to fight O'Neill again, and end your feud once and for all. He's the toughest fighter you've faced so far. Keep your guard up, and be ready to throw counter-punches. He likes to do the same, so pick your spots. Be patient, and keep knocking him down until you can do a finisher. Even after you do, he still won't be down for good. Do a little more damage, though, and you'll finally be able to finish him--literally.
Chapter 7: In Loving Memory of Francesco Potenza
After your early release from prison, soak in the warm summer sun, then catch up with your old pal Joe. After the cutscene, go down to Joe's garage and get in one of your lovingly maintained cars, and head to your new apartment, on the west side of town. There's a handy garage on the side of the building, already preloaded with all your cars. the apartment is on the top floor; take the tour with the mildly slimy real estate guy. Then get dressed up nice. If you've bought a suit previously, it'll be in the wardrobe in your new place. If not, hit a men's store to buy some fancy duds. Then drive over to Joe's place and meet up with him again. Drive him and his new friend to your destination.
After doing what you need to do in the place where these things get done, hop in the car again. You're designated driver for the duration, since your two buddies can barely stand. Start heading toward Joe's. When the actual situation becomes clear, change course, and head for the old observatory, where a convenient pre-dug hole awaits.
After dropping off your noxious cargo, drive your besotted pals back to Joe's place. Here's the most difficult part of the game: listening to the two drunks commit wanton brutality on a defenseless Dean Martin. If you can survive the trip, drop the boys off at Joe's to finish the chapter.
Chapter 8: The Wild Ones
After being rudely awakened, get dressed, then head downstairs and meet up with Joe outside. Drive the truck up to Riverside. The truck's bulk blocks out a good portion of your view in third-person mode, so you may want to switch to first-person by pressing Right Stick. When you get to your destination, drive the truck around back, then hand out the cartons as Joe calls for them. The Whites are on the left near the back bumper; the Reds are on the same side, further back. The Blues are on the right. When the cop shows up, give him a carton of Whites, then move on to the next stop.
Hand out a couple of cartons at the new location. When the greasers appear, jump in their leader's car, and try to chase down one of the fleeing cars. It's too fast for you, so don't feel bad about not catching it. When the car escapes, get off the highway and find a phone booth. Use it to call Eddie Scarpo, then get back in the car and drive over to the Crazy Horse for the meeting. Shoot the place up, then grab a Molotov cocktail from Steve's trunk and toss it inside to burn the place down. Now head over to the foundry, the greasers' main base.
Fight the huge group of greasers in the foundry. Make your way froward from cover to cover, taking out everything within range. The game would like you to flank out the greasers, but use this tactic sparingly, as it can land you between enemies, or expose you to fire from which there is no absolute cover. Keep pushing forward, and be patient. Some of the greasers' guns can take you out in a shot or two, so give yourself plenty of time to recover your health before pressing forward.
After you've eliminated the last of the greasers, steal the hot-rod nearby, and drive it all the way down to the docks. You don't have to get it there in pristine condition; a few dings are OK, but if you take too much damage, you may need to stop by a body shop and get the car repaired before it's in salable shape again. When you get to the docks, drive up onto the platform near Derek's place, then get out and walk away to sell the car. Then find a ride, and bring the money to the Maltese Falcon. Give it to Eddie to pay him back for his torched cigarettes, and end the chapter.
Chapter 9: Balls and Beans
When you wake up, answer the phone, then head over to the Maltese Falcon to get the whole story. From there, drive to Freddy's Bar. When Luca comes out, follow him. Don't lose track of him, but don't get too close, either. You can't get spotted. He'll get on the highway and head north toward Riverside. Trail him to the slaughterhouse there.
At the slaughterhouse, park your car, then look for a way in. Go through the break in the fence on the right, and down the hill. Open the grate to the sewer, and follow the tunnel along. Climb up the ladder at the end, and quickly duck into cover. The barking dog will summon a guard; make sure he doesn't see you. Stay in cover as the prisoners are brought into the building. Don't get spotted. When everyone's inside, turn around, and climb up onto the piled debris at the far end of the alley. Get up onto the pipes along the wall on the left, and follow them to a walkway, which will grant you access to the building.
Once inside, sneak past the sleeping guard, and down the hallway. Keep to the left, and stop when you near the door on the right. Wait for the butcher to go outside for a smoke--he'll close the door on the left--then head through the rooms on the right. When you come out into the hallway again, go through the door on the right. Sneak around the big room, keeping the tables between you and the butchers. They won't see you as long as you're crouching. Stop when you near the last corner, and wait for the thug to have his say. When the room clears out, go through the open doorway on the right, and follow the hallway. Make it to the stainless steel door ahead to trigger a cutscene.
When you get control again, fight the big bruiser. He's capable of taking a decent amount of punishment, but he's not the quickest or most powerful fighter you've faced. Take him down to trigger another cutscene. Afterward, shoot down the goons in the room with you. A second wave will appear after a short conversation among you and your new friends. Take them out too, then head off in search of Luca. While Balls pounds on the door, get ready for enemy reinforcements to show up outside. take cover by the window, and take them out. There are plenty of them, so be patient, and stay alive. Meet up with Balls again to finish the job.
After Luca's taken care of, leave the slaughterhouse. Scoop up the ammo laying around, and take whichever car you want, assuming there are any left in one piece. Then drive back to the Maltese Falcon. When the lingering odor of the sewer spoils your reception, go out and get changed. You can use this opportunity to bolster your wardrobe by buying some new duds, or just go home and change. Either way, you'll want to look spiffy, since tonight is a very special night in the life of a young wiseguy.
Chapter 10: Room Service
When you wake up in your swanky new digs, answer the phone, then get dressed at the closet just to the left of the front door. There should be a car in the driveway, and the rest of your collection in the garage. Head over to Joe's apartment to find out what's going on. Then go outside, get in Joe's car, and drive over to the hotel. When you get there, drive around back, and park in the garage. Hop out. After the ensuing cutscene, turn left, and go through the door in the that direction. Make your way through the laundry rooms until the guy opens the door for Joe.
In your new cleaning uniform, head down the hallway. When the guy tells you to clean the floor, do it. After the next cutscene, get in the elevator, and press the button on the right to ride it up. At the top, follow the others down the hallway. Wait for the guy to open the door, then go inside. Follow him through another room, and keep your face turned away from the goons at the bar--if they recognize you, you're busted. In the next room, help Joe at the window, then clean up the mess on the floor. When that's done, follow Joe out of the room, down the hallway, and up the stairs.
After the next cutscene, go back out through the door, and fight it out with the thugs on the roof. They'll keep appearing for a while. When the first group is dead, head to the right along the roof. Fight more goons, and continue to the platform at the end of the roof. Hit the switch to summon the window washing platform. Tie up the guy who rides up on it, then get on, and ride the platform down.
When you reach the right floor, grab a squeegee and wash the window. After the bomb goes off, make your way forward, fighting goons as you go. Make it to the elevator, and ride it down, then keep pushing on, taking out any thugs that get in your way. Watch out for gunmen on the catwalks above the laundry rooms.
When you reach the garage, say goodbye to Marty, then set off after Clemente in Joe's car. Chase him down so Joe can shoot up his car. If the two enemy cars split up, make sure you follow the black one; that's where Clemente is. Get close to the black car for long enough to let Joe shoot it up. When the job's finally done, go back to your house and take a nap. Then, when the phone wakes you, get up and answer it. Drive down to the Lone Star to pick up a very drunk Joe.
When things go bad at the Lone Star, load the bartender's body in the trunk of his car. Drive Joe home, then take the body to a discrete location to get rid of it. Drive the car into the crusher, then get out and go up the stairs on the right. Hit the switch there to dispose of the evidence. Then find another ride and head for home.
Chapter 11: A Friend of Ours
Get dressed, then answer the door. Drive Henry over to the Maltese Falcon to meet with your boss. After their conversation, leave the bar and jump in the first decent car you see. You need to get to Leo's house before Henry does. Your loyalty to Leo won't let you sit idly by while he's whacked. You need to haul a little bit of ass here. You have time, but you can't afford too many delays. Get to Leo's before the timer runs out to warn him.
Escort Leo out of the house. Try to keep Henry from seeing you, but don't worry if he does. Get Leo out to the driveway--there's a door opening on it in the kitchen--and drive him to the train station so he can start a new life in another city. Then head for home.
After finding your sister on your front steps, track down her no-good husband and teach him a little respect. Find him in the kitchen of his friend's apartment, in the early stages of an adulterous act. Then return home, talk to your sister again on the phone, and hit the sack.
When your house is fire-bombed, turn around and go through the door behind you, then jump out through the bathroom window. Get away from the thugs. There's one around the corner behind the house; take him out, and grab his gun. Then make your getaway. You don't need to kill all the enemies; just get away from them. The swimming pool a few backyards away makes a convenient piece of cover; enemies will pursue you through the hedges, and you can pick them off as they appear. When you have a chance, get a car, and head over to Joe's.
Go with Joe to the Irish bar, and bust it up. Take out everyone inside, then follow the rest out the back door. Chase down the last few enemies to put an end to the Irish mob once and for all. Then drive Joe back to his apartment. After dropping him off, head over to your new place--Marty's old place.
Chapter 12: Sea Gift
Answer the phone and get dressed, then head over to the park to meet with Henry and Joe, who have a big score planned. Drive them to meet with the loan shark; his place is around the back. From there, drive over to the warehouse. Try to do the deal. When it goes sour, through no fault of your own, fight your way out of the warehouse.
You don't have to stay and fight the guys outside. Just make sure you stay out of the way of the car that comes careening up the alley. Run up the stairs on the left, and make your way along the walkway over the alley. Again, you can stay and pick off enemies, or just run to the end of the walkway and bust open the door there.
Inside, you'll be fired on from goons on the floor below. Peg away at them, or move down the walkway to the stairs at the far end. Either way, you'll have to take out all of these guys, plus another bunch that shows up from the door at the end of the room. Fight them all, then deal with the two carloads of enemies that appear outside. Trash the cars to get some quick kills, then pick off anyone left alive.
When the immediate area is clear of enemies, get away from the warehouse. Go out through the gate across the yard. If you can find a car, take it. It's possible to get away on foot, but you'll run into trouble just ahead if you do.
Two more cars loaded with thugs will try to stop you ahead. Take them out, or just outrun them. After escaping the first warehouse, head over to another, to do another deal. Thankfully, this one goes more smoothly than the previous one, and the montage that follows will end the chapter.
Chapter 13: Exit the Dragon
When the phone interrupts your fun, answer it. Get dressed, then head out to meet Henry in the park. You'll get there just in time to see your pal get turned into chop suey. Gun down the thugs who did it to him, then trail their boss as he makes his slow, calm getaway. Don't let him see you, but don't let him get away either. Follow him to Chinatown, then shoot up his restaurant. You can stop off at Harry's army-navy store before starting the assault, and stock up on weapons and ammo. It's not a bad idea, since there'll be plenty of enemies in the coming sections.
Start the battle in the restaurant, and follow the waves of goons through the buildings beyond. Be careful, they have pretty powerful machine guns; make sure you grab one as soon as you can, and keep stocking up on ammo. Fight your way forward, until you come to an elevator. Ride it up to the next level. Here Joe will suddenly decide to start using stealth. Sneak up on the thugs here, and take them out silently. There's one just ahead, and more in the next room. Look for a small storage room off the large second room, where you'll find a bunch of weapons, including grenades. Use your new arsenal to wipe out the enemies in the large room. Watch for more to arrive via the elevator at the far end of the room. If you're quick, you can hit them with a well-placed grenade or Molotov. When the room's clear, ride the elevator they arrived in. On the next level, just go down the hallway to trigger a cutscene.
After the Chinese Big Boss is taken care of, leave the building. Outside, the cops are waiting in force in the street. You need to run out and grab a car as fast as you can. You can try to break into one directly across the street, but this takes time, and you'll be taking damage for all of it. Another option is to run around the corner, and grab one of the cars in traffic at the nearest intersection. Some drivers may even abandon their cars because of the heavy police presence, so you might be able to just jump in and go. Drive back to Joe's apartment to end the chapter. You'll automatically be wanted, so it may be a good idea to stop somewhere and alter your appearance. You can make it back without stopping, though; you might have to deal with some police pursuit, but you should be used to that by now.
Chapter 14: Stairway to Heaven
Get up and answer the phone, then get dressed, and meet Joe outside. You've got a busy day ahead of you, scrambling to earn the $55,000 you owe Bruno the loan shark before you end up one meatball short of a set. First stop is Greenfield, over on the West Side, where you need to whack a guy. Be ready for an onslaught of cops the moment the fatal cutscene ends. The guy was under federal protection, apparently, and now you're wanted and surrounded by cops. Shake them off as you speed away. Take a right at the corner; that way, you'll be headed in the direction of your next destination. After shaking the cops, drop Joe off, then head down to the docks to see if Derek has any work for you.
Meet Derek in his office, then follow him and his thugs down to the meeting. When it all goes bad, leave the warehouse, and battle it out with the goons. Grab the ammo they drop as you move forward. When you've finished off the first batch, be ready for a car to arrive at the end of the alley, loaded with more enemies. Kill them all, then head for the building up ahead. You should run into Steve along the way; gun him down. Watch for the guard stationed at the door of the building. Take him out. Make sure you're all loaded up on ammo, then head inside.
Now you'll have to take out Derek. This is easily the hardest battle in the game. Derek throws Molotov cocktails down from his perch on the walkway overhead. He's very precise with them, and the resulting fire does damage from a lot farther away than it appears. You can be well clear of the flames and still be taking damage. You need to move frequently, abandoning cover and seeking more whenever the fire rains down. There are a lot of thugs in the building too, and you need to eliminate them. More will appear out of nowhere as the battle goes on, including some that run straight at you. Always keep a full clip, and be ready for attacks to come from any direction. Watch your radar for enemies. You need to kill everyone in the building with you, including Derek, before you're done. When it's all over, go through Derek's office to find some money, then head out in search of more.
You need to earn enough to pay off your debt with Bruno. That means a bit of a crime spree: robbing stores and/or stealing cars to bring to Mike's junkyard. Stay with it until you have the required cash. Cops will show up pretty quickly when you rob a store, and they'll only appear more quickly--and in greater numbers--as your rap sheet lengthens. You and your car will become wanted quickly; change cars, plates and clothes frequently to keep the law off your trail. Gun shops generally make the richest targets for robbery, but you can do pretty well with clothing stores and restaurants too. Be ready for store security and/or armed citizens to resist; deal with them in the only way possible. When you have enough money, head over to Joe's. When he doesn't show, go check the Maltese Falcon. When there's no sign of him there, head for Giuseppe's.
After speaking to Giuseppe, head over to the Mona Lisa to find out what the Vinci family has done with Joe. After joining him in his predicament, then escaping from it, grab the gun from the guy Joe's busy beating to death, then sneak forward. There are three more goons on this level, all of which you should be able to sneak up on and dispatch pretty easily. After doing so, go down the stairs on the right side of the roof. Ahead are more enemies, who you'll have to fight. Kill everyone on this level, then find another set of stairs, and go down. There will be goons on some but not all of the many landings you'll traverse. Make sure you're fully loaded and ready to fire as you make your way down the stairs.
At the bottom level--you'll know it by the shouts, and the flying Molotov cocktail, hurled your way--climb up on the debris on the left, take cover on the other side of the opening, and take out the thugs. There are more ahead, so be careful as you make your way forward. In a room up ahead on the right, look for some grenades on a barrel. Then find another set of stairs, and go down to the next level. Here you'll have to fight a huge group of heavily armed enemies. There's little margin for error, so don't leave yourself exposed for too long. Watch the stairs on the right; enemies will sometimes try to rush up them at you. You can use the stairs to get a new angle on your enemies, but the low railing provides imperfect cover, so be ready to change positions in a hurry if you have to. There's also a set of stairs on the left; though it's blocked off and inaccessible from your level, enemies can use it to reach you. The enemies' ability to deal damage decreases significantly with distance, so in general, it's a good idea to take cover near the back of the area.
Once you've eliminated every last enemy here, head outside through the revolving doors on the right. Then grab a car, and drive Joe to El Greco's to get him patched up. After dropping him off, your last chore of the evening is to drop off the money at Bruno's. Drive down to the docks and pay him to end the chapter.
Chapter 15: Per Aspera Ad Astra
Get up and answer the phone, then get dressed and go outside into to rain. After an unexpected meeting, it's time to head to the old observatory to finish your business with Carmine Falcone. Get a car and drive over there. Stop at a gun shop on the way if you're low on weapons or ammo; there's a fight in store for you.
After the cutscene that marks your arrival at the observatory, run forward and take cover immediately. Enemies are about to rush down the steps ahead, guns blazing. Take as many out as you can as they come, but be ready to duck back into cover as soon as you start taking damage. Fight it out with these guys until they're all dead. Watch out for the gunman up on the walkway to the left of the stairs; he can do some serious damage if you neglect to take him out early. Also, guys may charge your position, so always be ready to open up on anyone who gets too close. Try to prevent that, though, since a madly rushing enemy can take you out in a matter of seconds. Prioritize anyone who gets too close, or who looks like he's about to rush you.
When you've finished off the first group, move forward. Collect their weapons and ammo as you go. Climb the steps, but carefully; there are plenty more enemies waiting ahead. Make your way down the walkway, taking cover when necessary. Keep your gun loaded and aimed as you move forward. More enemies will probably try the kamikaze technique, so you need to be prepared. When you get to the rooms at the end of the walkway, continue to proceed with caution. In the second room are several enemies, including a bomb-thrower, behind the second-floor railing. Be careful as you move further into the rooms; there's a guy up on the roof, firing down through the skylight. Take him out as soon as you can, then finish off anyone else in the room. Be ready for more enemies to come in through the door on the left of the second floor.
When the room's all cleared out, move cautiously through the door. Jump back when someone hurls a bomb down at you. Move further back into the rooms; taking cover by the door isn't a bad idea here. More enemies will rush down the stairs at you, and you don't want to be too close. Take them all out, then go through the door again, and up the stairs onto the roof. Don't worry, there are no more bombs, just plenty of gunners up on the roof. Pick them off as you make your way forward, toward the door at the far end of the roof.
After you go through the door, the final battle can begin. Carmine has a ton of thugs in the observatory, and you'll have to eliminate them all before you can deal with the man himself. Complicating matters is the curved shape of the room; there's no 100% effective cover, and you're always vulnerable from at least one angle. Keep an eye out for enemies appearing on your vulnerable side, and be ready to gun them down and/or move into better cover. They'll pop out of the several entrances around the room, so watch your radar for new enemies. You'll have to go through quite a few before the last batch, including Falcone, shows up. Kill them all, then whack the big boss, to finish the chapter, and the game.
