About the Game

MadWorld is an ultra violent game that's being released exclusively for the Wii in response to the lack of "hardcore" games available for the platform. The game is set in Varrigan City, where players take the role of Jack, who must fight to the death against other citizens who have been trapped because of the outbreak of a deadly virus. These citizens are being pitted against each other as part of a gruesome sports show entitled "DeathWatch."

Players must make use of any weapons they can find in the arena in order to take down their opponents, spare their own lives and find out exactly what this "DeathWatch" show is all about. The game is designed to be over the top in terms of violence and features a stark black and white art style reminiscent of graphic novels.

Even though the game is very violent, it's not designed to be overly serious. In fact the developers have put a lot of time and energy into getting the sense of humor in the game just right. It was particularly challenging for the developers, who are Japanese, to figure out what would be funny to people in the United States.Platinum Games Blog: A different sense of humor

Controls

A: Punch. Hold to grab enemy or pick up weapon
B: Rev up chainsaw/Perform finishing move. Swing remote to swing chainsaw
Z: Jump
C: Center Camera. Hold to lock on
Up on Control Pad: Pick up item
Left or Right on Control Pad: Equip Weapon
Swing Remote (Horizontal): Backfist
Swing Remote (Vertical): Uppercut
Swing Nunchuck: Dodge
- Button: Pause

Advanced Maneuvers

Power Punch: Hold forward on the control stick and press A.
Jumping Chainsaw: Hold B, jump and swing the remote horizontally or vertically while still in the air. Much more damaging than a standing chainsaw slash.
Jumping Punch: Press A while in the air to have Jack come smashing down to the ground. If you have daggers, Jack will continue attacking while in the air for an air combo.
Dodge Attack: Press A while in the middle of a dodge to have Jack hit the enemy with a shoulder charge. Extremely useful with weapons like the Spiked Bat and Katana.
Kinniku Buster: A nod to the old wrestling anime Kinnikuman, the Kinnikubuster can be performed by hitting an enemy into the air with an uppercut, then holding the A button.

Point System

MadWorld is all about the points. If you just go into it mindlessly punching enemies to death, not only are you not going to have that much fun, but you also aren't going to get very many points, which will make your progression through the game extremely slow.
The game rewards you for creative and elaborate kills. What this basically boils down to is: How much stuff can I do to this enemy before finally dealing the finishing blow?
Whenever possible, look around for sign posts, barrels, tires, doll heads, trash cans, and try to put as many things as you can on to a single enemy before throwing him into some kind of environmental hazard.
Other ways to gain points are to complete DeathWatch and Bloodbath Challenges.

Dodging

There is no blocking in MadWorld so your only way to avoid attacks is either by jumping or using your dodge technique.
Always be mindful of what the enemies around you are doing. Generally, they're fine with just hanging back and waiting their turn to be killed, but if you see them wind up for an attack, get ready to shake the nunchuck to backflip out of there.
Note that if you dodge at the right moment during a large enemy's attack, you will perform a roll that will put you in a better position to counter-attack.

Part 1 - Tutorial

After all of the opening cutscenes finish and you gain control of Jack, you'll have to go through a tutorial that teaches you how to play.
First you'll learn the basics. Press the A button to punch the enemy up ahead, then swing the remote vertically to perform an uppercut and finally swing the remote horizontally to perform a backfist.
Now for your chainsaw. Hold B to rev up the chainsaw and the swing the remote vertically to split the enemy down the middle. After that, hold B and then swing the remote horizontally to cut the next enemy in half.
The next tactic you'll learn is the dodge. Swing the nunchuck to have Jack perform a backflip.
Next, press the Z button to jump.
Now that you've learned the basics, hop over the cars ahead and move on to the next area.
Your next task is to beat up an enemy with the A button until he's stunned to the point where the "Finish" icon appears. Once that comes up, press the B button to perform a brutal finishing move. Follow the on screen prompts to complete the move.
Now for an A finisher. Once again beat an enemy up until the "Finish" icon appears, only this time hold down the A button.

Next, we learn the very important throw maneuver. Walk up to an enemy and hold down the A button. This will cause Jack to grab the enemy by the collar. From here you can headbutt the enemy by swinging the Nunchuck and then throw them by swinging the remote.
Now we get to make use of the environment. Head over to the stack of tires and hold A to pick one up. Keep the A button held and then swing the remote to throw the tire.
Pick up the tire again and this time look for enemy to place it on. Once you get close enough to an enemy, swing the remote and Jack will slam dunk it onto them, making them completely helpless.
Now you get to do the same thing, only this time with a signpost. Pick up the nearby caution sign and swing the remote near an enemy to jam it through their head. Try to put it through the same guy that you put the tire on.
Next, pick up the enemy by moving up to him and holding A, then carry him over to the Rose Bush. Either throw him onto the Rose Bush, or get up close and swing the remote to initiate an environmental kill sequence.
You're almost done with the tutorial. Grab another tire and place it onto a nearby enemy. Then, stick a signpost through his head. Finally, take him over to the Rose Bush and pin him to a spike.
You will be rewarded for your brutality with a crate that falls from the sky. Break the crate open to find an extra life in the form of a Jack Balloon. Pick it up by pressing Up on the D-Pad.
The gate will open and you'll now get the chance to put everything you learned to use. Garner 20,000 points by killing the enemies in this area.

Aside from the traditional barrels and sign posts, you can also pick an enemy up and put him into the flaming barrel, throw an enemy into the dumpster, or impale him on the spikes on the side of the bus. Be creative!
Once you reach your goal of 20,000 points, the gates will open and you'll be able to participate in one of this level's Bloodbath Challenges

Bloodbath Challenge: Turbinator

The object of this Bloodbath Challenge is simple. Throw as many enemies into the giant turbine as possible.
All you really need to do here is grab an enemy and then use Jack's side throw to try and knock other enemies into the danger zone as well. You get extra points for getting multiple enemies in the turbine at once.
You do need to be careful though. If Jack gets too far into the Danger Zone himself, he'll get sucked up by the turbine as well.
Throw as many enemies into the Turbine as you can before time is up to get some serious points.
