Bloodbath Challenges in MadWorld are short, timed minigames that are vital to the main story of the game, but can also be played in multiplayer matches.

Looking back at the game now, it might be hard to imagine there was ever a time when the developers thought there wasn't enough violence in MadWorld, but that's exactly what happened. They had the art, the weapons and moves, but the game still seemed to be missing something. That's when the team came up with the idea of having sports-like commentary throughout the game.

The game's producer, Shigenori Nishikawa, said in an official blog, "we knew that only having one announcer would seem a bit weak, and wouldn’t really get people excited. So we decided that they should be like Japanese Manzai comedians, with the play-by-play man joined by a color commentator, bouncing lines back and forth between each other as the game played out. I thought that if we could pull that off, we would definitely make the game even more comical."

The producer conferred with his American and Canadian team members to make sure what was being said was funny and then recorded the dialogue in Platinum Games' in-house recording studio. After putting the extra audio in the game, the developers weren't sure how it would be received by Sega, but were relieved when those reviewing the game laughed out loud at the announcers.Official Blog: MadWorld
