• Madden Curse

Many fans and even some players have long-held the belief that appearing on the cover of a Madden game brings bad luck for the coming season. Some of the more interesting victims of the "curse" are:

    1. Barry Sanders (2000) Retired prior to start of the season
    2. Daunte Culpepper (2002) Had one of the worst seasons of his career and suffered a mid-season back injury that benched him for the remainder of the year
    3. Michael Vick (2004) Suffered a broken fibula and played only the last five games of the season
    4. Shaun Alexander (2007) Suffered a fracture and failed to break 1,000 yards for the first time in seven years
    5. Brett Favre (2009) Appeared on the cover in a Green Bay Packers uniform after his NFL retirement was announced. Favre came out of retirement between his cover athlete debut and the beginning of the season only to lost a bitter contract negotiation with the Packers. Favre was then picked up by the New York Jets where he failed to lead his new team to the playoffs.Snopes.com: The Madden Curse
