The Mid-American Conference was founded as a five-school league on February 24, 1946 in Columbus, Ohio with Ohio, Butler, Cincinnati, Wayne State and Western Reserve admitted as charter members. The Mid-American Conference has 12 full-time schools and a 13th, Temple, for football only.
The 2010 MAC Tournament determined the 2009-10 Mid-American Conference Champions for MAC Men's Basketball. 2010 MAC Tournament
The 2010 tournament was held from March 7-13. First round games were played at campus sites, locations being the home court of the higher seed. The Championship game was between No. 9 Ohio U and No. 3 Akron, with Ohio winner in over-time 81-75. Ohio's Armon Bassett scored 25 to earn tournament MVP honors. Ohio’s 9th place finish in the regular season made them the lowest seed team to win the MAC Tournament. They did it by knocking off top-seeded Kent State, No. 4 Miami (Ohio), and then finally No. 3 Akron.
History
Since 2000, the MAC Basketball Tournament has been held at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland Ohio. Past MAC Tournament Champions are Kent State Golden Flashes, Miami RedHawks, and the Ohio Bobcats. In 2002 Kent State advanced into the Elite eight of the NCAA Tournament and in 1999 the Miami RedHawks went on to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
Kent State Golden Flashes is the defending champion of the 2008 MAC Men's Basketball Tournament. Golden Flashes defeated the Toledo Rockets in the Quarterfinals 77-57, defeated the Miami RedHawks in the Semis 49-47, and advancing to the tournament championships facing arch rival Akron Zips. Kent State capture its fifth tournament championships title led by Haminn Quaintance who was named the tournament MVP.
