Luxembourg is located in the heart of Western Europe, bordering Germany, Belgium and France. It is one of the smallest countries in Europe in terms of both land area and population, with fewer than half a million people living in a land area of approximately 1,000 sq. miles. Together with Belgium and the Netherlands, Luxembourg is part of the "Benelux" countries and was a founding member of the European Union.
History
The city of Luxembourg, which is the largest city in the country, was an important Roman fortress during the height of the Roman empire. Sandwiched between Romantic and Germanic Europe, Luxembourg borrows traditions from both cultures, with a mix of French and German inspired cuisine and traditions.
