Luis Mendoza is a pitcher in the starting rotation of MLB's Texas Rangers.
Early Years
Mendoza was born in Minatitlán Veracruz, Mexico on October 31, 1983.
Boston Red Sox
In 1999 he was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Boston Red Sox. His entire Red Sox career was spent in the minor leagues. In 2005 he signed, as a free agent, with the San Diego Padres and was reclaimed by the Red Sox, after being waived by the Padres. In 2006 Mendoza was traded to the Texas Rangers.
Texas Rangers
He spent the 2006 season the Rangers' AA affiliate, the Frisco RoughRiders. His record was 15-4 with a 3.93 ERA in 26 games. This performance earned him a call up to the Majors in September 2007, thus becoming the 101st major-league player to have been born in Mexico. He appeared in six games for the Rangers, earning his first major league win in September.
2008 Season
The 2008 season has been a challenge. In his first 3 appearances he gave up 10 runs in 9 2/3 innings. Suffering from an inflamed shoulder was placed on the disabled list, effect April 24th.
