The Louisiana State University football team currently plays in the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference. They have won three national championships, including the 2007 BCS championship game against Ohio State. The program has a rich and storied tradition of excellence, which dates to the beginning of the SEC in 1932. They play home games at Tiger Stadium on the school's campus in Baton Rouge. The team is one of the few in college football that wears their white jerseys at home, and they are also known for mostly playing home games at night.
2010 LSU Tigers Football Preview
Coming off a top 10 recruiting class, LSU Tigers Head Coach Les Miles is looking for similar success on the field. The quarterback position remains unsettled. While the incumbent starter at quarterback, junior Jordan Jefferson is the favorite to retain the job, he is expected to be challenged by Jarrett Lee who saw significant playing time in 2009. The Tigers lost six starters from the 2009 squad including running backs Charles Scott and Keiland Williams. A trio of backs will be counted on to step up to fill the void. Spencer Ware, Jakhari Gore and Alfred Blue will be counted on to provide a solid ground game for the Tigers. At the wide receiver position, the squad's top receiver from 2009 returns in Terrance Toliver. Four wide receivers from last year are gone, however, so veterans Reuban Randle and Russell Shepard will be asked to step up, along with newcomers Kadron Boone and James Wright.http://www.secsportsfan.com/lsutigersfootball.html
A bigger question mark may be the defense, where seven starters have departed from the 2009 squad. The Tigers, however, have high expectations for recruits from the 2009 class including defensive end Sam Montgomery, defensive tackle Michael Brockers, linebacker Kevin Mintner and a junior college transfer who joined the team in time for 2010 spring practice, Kendrick Adams. A key returnee on the defensive side of the ball is Kelvin Sheppard a senior who last season ranked fourth in the SEC with 110 tackles. Other Tiger defenders returning include Lazarius Levingston, Patrick Peterson and Brandon Taylor. The Tigers hope that some members of their most recent recruiting class are ready to make an immediate impact that could make the LSU defense one of the best in the SEC.http://www.secsportsfan.com/lsutigersfootball.html
Roar of the Tigers
Though the school has produced countless All-Americans and NFL players, only one Tiger has ever won the Heisman Trophy. That was Billy Cannon in 1959. Other great LSU players of the past include Jerry Stovall, Bert Jones, Charles Alexander, Tommy Casanova, Jim Taylor, LaRon Landry, Anthony McFarland, JaMarcus Russell, Joseph Addai and Glenn Dorsey.
