The trailer for the Peter Jackson film The Lovely Bones was released online on August 5, 2009, on Apple.com. The film will debut on December 11, 2009, and is based on the best-seller by Alice Sebold.
The story opens with the rape and murder of young Susie Salmon in 1973. Salmon then watches the toll her death and the ensuing police investigation takes on her family.

The 2 and a half minute trailer focuses on Susie Salmon's journey to Heaven, and the police investigation into her murder that she watches from above. Saoirse Ronan portrays Susie, Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz are her parents, and Susan Sarandon plays her grandmother.
