  • Plot Summary

    In a town in Colombia, Florentino Ariza (Javier Bardem) is madly in love with Fermina Daza (Giovanna Mezzogiorno), the daughter of a mule trader. Ariza pursues her tirelessly, but he is consistently thwarted the the girls father. After being separated from her suitor for so long, Fermina becomes convinced that Ariza never truly existed, and marries Dr. Juvenal Urbino (Benjamin Bratt). With his heart emptied by the loss of his true love, Ariza searches to fill the found through loveless relationships with various women. 50 years after their first encounter, Ariza contacts a recently widowed Fermina, still looking for his long lost love.
