  • Gabriel Garcia Marquez's acclaimed novel Love in the Time of Cholera is a passionate story about a 50-year love triangle in 19th and 20th Century Colombia. The book was first published in Spanish in 1985, and in English in 1988 by Alfred A. Knopf.

    Love in the Time of Cholera was chosen as Oprah Winfrey's fall 2007 book selection for her enormously popular book club. The book was also adapted into film in 2007, which was directed by Mike Newell and starred Javier Bardem, Benjamin Bratt and Giovanna Mezzogiorno.

  • Plot Synopsis

    Love in the Time of Cholera is about a man named Florentino Ariza who is madly in love with a woman named Fermina Daza. Fermina Daza marries another man named Dr. Juvenal Urbino, which crushes Ariza's heart. The story follows the lives of Ariza and Daza, as their paths separate and ultimately reunite after Urbino's death.
