  • Career Overview

After the departure of vocalist Peter Murphy from the goth rock quartet Bauhaus, the remaining members regrouped as the more pop-oriented Love and Rockets.

Their debut album, 1985's Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven, featured their first hit single - a cover of The Temptations' "Ball of Confusion." Their largest hit single, off of the band's self-titled 1989 release, was also a cover, this time of "So Alive" by T. Rex. The song eventually hit #3 on the Billboard chart, a first for Love and Rockets or Bauhaus.

After being dropped by RCA Records, the band was signed to Rick Rubin's label, American Recordings, and released Hot Trip to Heaven and Sweet F.A., featuring a more moody, electronic sound. Their final album, Lift, came out in 1998, and the group disbanded the following year.

Love and Rockets reteamed in 2007 to record a cover for a tribute to Joe Strummer and to play at the 2008 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
