Lovaxin C

  • Human clinical trials are showing promising results for Lovaxin C, a live Listeria vaccine, in patients with advanced cervical cancer. Lovaxin C is being developed by Advaxis, a biotechnology company specifically investigating Listeria monocytogenes that have been genetically altered as a means to treat various cancers.

Lovaxin C's active ingredient, attenuated live Listeria, is a type of bacteria that often causes food poisoning. Consequently, the vaccine may be administered with an antibiotic in order to prevent bacterial infection.

Clinical trials have shown that Lovaxin C is safe, and has even shown to help women with advanced cervical cancer. However, all subjects reported Flu-like symptoms, but administering the vaccine in limited doses eased the severity of the symptoms. In addition, discomfort was easily treatable with over-the-counter drugs.
