• Known primarily over the years for their basketball program, the Louisville Cardinals football team is making a significant imprint as one of the top teams in the Big East Conference. The Cardinals have been in the league since 2005, and already have achieved enormous success by winning the 2006 Orange Bowl. They play their home games at their on-campus facility, Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

  Many former Louisville players have had major success in the NFL. These include Doug Buffone, Tom Jackson, Sam Madison, Otis Wilson, Mark Clayton, Deion Branch, Ted Washington, Ernest Givins, Joe Jacoby and recent 2008 NFL draft selection Brian Brohm. Of course, maybe the greatest player produced by the school is quarterback Johnny Unitas.
