Louisiana carries with it 9 electoral votes. Polls in the state are open on Election Day November 4, 2008 from 7 am to 9 pm. Louisiana is considered a reliable "red" state. But Democratic Presidential candidates have won the state in past elections. Bill Clinton won in 1992 and 1996 and Jimmy Carter won in 1976. Current polls show GOP nominee John McCain with a comfortable lead over Democratic nominee Barack Obama and the state is considered a safe bet as a Republican state on election day.
