Louis XVI of France ruled as King of France and Navarre from 1774 until 1791. On August 13, 1792, he was arrested, tried and found guilty of treason. He was executed by guillotine on January 21, 1793.

- 1770: At the age of fifteen, Louis XVI of France married Marie Antoinette, the youngest daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor Francis I and his wife, the Empress Maria Theresa.
- 1793: On Monday, January 21, 1793, Louis XVI of France was stripped of all titles and was placed on the guillotine in front of a cheering crowd in at the Place de la Concorde.
