Retired football player and coach Lou Saban died at the age of 87 on March 29, 2009. Saban passed away in the early morning hours in the home where he resided with his wife Joyce in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
During his long career, Saban coached for a long list of teams including the Boston Patriots, Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos and several colleges. Steinbrenner's Statement
George Steinbrenner released a statement after Saban's passing. Steinbrenner said Saban "has been my friend and mentor for over 50 years, and one of the people who helped shape my life. Lou was tough and disciplined, and he earned all the respect and recognition that came his way. He spent a lifetime leading, teaching and inspiring, and took great satisfaction in making the lives around him better."
