Conservative news anchor Lou Dobbs announced on November 11, 2009 that he was leaving his show on CNN effective immediately. The announcement came as a surprise to some, but not to others, since it has been well-publicized recently that Dobbs had been asked to tone down his conservative rhetoric if he wanted to remain on-air. Dobbs said that he was leaving to pursue a bigger role in national conversations and problem-solving.http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/12/business/media/12dobbs.html?_r=1&hp
History
Lou Dobbs has made his conservative views well-known via his nightly newscast. Several months ago, he was instructed by CNN's president to strive for a more objective newscast, which prior to Wednesday's resignation, he appeared to be doing.
According to reports, CNN is trying to remain a middle of the road, somewhat neutral, somewhat objective station, and Dobbs' departure may make that easier.
Dobbs quit CNN one time before, in 1999, returning to the network two years later.http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/12/business/media/12dobbs.html?_r=1&hp
On Thursday, November 12, CNN announced that John King will be taking over the 7 p.m. time slot Dobbs vacated.http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/12/john-king-to-replace-lou-dobbs/
